and then our exile

Wednesday, August 02, 2006 at 10:19 a.m.

last night i was the maitre d' for a candle-lit dinner on the salrooqs' first anniversary. they celebrate more than any other couple i know - this is a good thing, as the world crumbles into grey, to have these few sources of honest, unadulterated joy. and they are good to me, have adopted me, that i might take joy from their joy, build a community of love and beauty, even as so many tragedies accumulate points of sorrow.

b: um - is there a reason he's hitting the car keys before hitting the unlock button?
salwa: oh - he's found out that if he hits it a couple of times it works.
b: hah. really. i'm...sure there's a metaphor in there somewhere.
s: well, what i was thinking of was that the battery's loose.

lightning-storms to the north as i drove home. splitting the night sky.

on a similar note - mabrook to maleeha & murtada. (: the twins now have a baby brother. may he constantly grow in truth and beauty.

Salwa posted the story on Islamica (don't join) only she called you "Farooq's best friend," but I knew it had to be you.
I should just move to Edmonton.

i thoroughly enjoyed it. a chance to dress up? complete with beret and a single clip-on earring? yes. (:

one problem i have pinpointed is that, in this modern world, too few people are really into costume parties and surprise kidnaps and such things. is kind of sadifying.

you /should/ move, because no one likes toronto anyway.

I've been slowly trying to convince people to join me in a movement to move you to Edmonton. Namely since I am at heart a selfish being and this be my city and I wish my community to have the coolest people. I think we already do have most of the cool Muslims - all the cool, active Muslims who care and who are creative and who are cool, and chilling and who are very cool, and really neat and so on and so on already live in Edmonton (see how cool I am? I can use cool many times). A few exceptions here and there - some have strayed off the right path and wandered to places like toronto and Ottawa and Montreal and so on.

Basit in his usual clothing at school is a sight enough (revolutionary costumes to boot).
