and then our exile

everything can be stylized. stultified, formalized. but - poof - there goes its richness and fullness. these are minimalist notes, to someday elaborate.

b: "i need clothes that fit the image".
noor: "you should wear a clown suit."

today i went to a garage sale, and bought three boxes of cedar shingles for 10$.
the days have yielded an ideal, split between hours of outside work (sweat, diesel, earth) and inside works (reading, editing, baking). the need for productivity, things to point at, because without deeds we might as well be protestants. well, actually not, i shouldn't say that, but point remains.

recently watched walk the line, and, far too impressionable even now in this my old age, am trying to practice my johnny-cash accent.

in other news, wuddistan.blogspot.com is nearing the end of its road.

"In other news, wuddistan.blogspot.com is nearing the end of its road." <-- May I ask why? And B...without the Wuddistan, where would I get to hear those wonderful zingers ("you know why those bell peppers are green?")?

ah yes. walk the line. was tempted, i must say. "well i walked in to a blazing ring of fire / something something, the flames rose higher.."

ahmed - i'll write something up on this later on - it's not that it is dying altogether, probably, but that it'll...be different. this way there are...complications. life isn't simple. questions of audience, the Public, postcards, and politics are all involved.
do the salrooqs get back today or tomorrow?

zacharia - ahlan ahlan o married one! you are now 'ammu zacharia, little children will come to you for the barkat.
i liked it, actually. it's a pretty profound movie, if you try to see beyond the obvious storyline.

Salaam a lizzle

They ended up with different flights.

So Salwa flew out last night (9 P.M. Local) and 'Rooq's flight was at 7 this morning...So they probably should have arrived (unless 'Rooq slept in...and you probably know what its like trying to wake him up). Hope all else is well.

BTW...Zacharia: Many mubaraks dude (and to your wife as well). Let me pass on some wisdom passed onto by the Salrooqs (Salwa and Farooq)...Marriage seems to make you fat (ask him...he'll let you know)

I've had a Johnny Cash accent for years. My grammaw used to play his records when we were over. I like to think that makes me ahead of the game. :)

But dude, why is wuddistan going the way of the world? We don't like progress. It runs too fast.

ahmed - rooq showed me some pictures of the trip. he seems to want to stress the "ghetto" nature of his past life.
e-address sent. send z a very corny card, with bouncing yellow smileys and green cheese. or something.

owl - ah alas. i think everyone should have equal opportunity for johnny cash accents.

it ain't going yet. and it probably won't disappear completely, but will deal with other things? maybe, ish? still wondering what to do with it.

'Rooq seems to sensationalize it (just a little)...Think its part of his 'gangsta image'. Truth be told, the neighbourhood was really never that bad. And alhumdulillah, while we didn't always have a lot, we always had enough. Besides...I kinda dug the old neighbourhoods. Come down sometime...ill take you on the all inclusive tour...
