and then our exile

research topic #1 (comparative philosophy, could fall under epistemology and/or metaphysics) - comparing/contrasting critiques of modernity from the christian existentialist camp (ie. gabriel marcel) and the muslim/esoteric "traditionalist" camp (ie. schuon, guenon, lings, et al)

research topic #2 (ethics) - exploring issues raised by responsibility-assumption. kind of linked to restitution justice, but more focused on outlining options available to those unwillingly in positions of privilege

this isn't because piksi was all about pressuring me to aim for grad school (i have time enough before that is relevant), but because i think the second topic is necessary, troubles me personally, and people i talked to say there hasn't been much work done on it. the first topic is just because on the one hand i like marcel and on the other although i haven't read too much from the sophia perennis crowd i need to, because it is beautiful, and i think people should take them more seriously.

i've been trying to speak only arabic to usman, it is good practice for both of us. and: i now understand why 'amiyyah developed.
ps. he is beautiful.

grad school isn't really and 'aiming' sort of thing; you just kind of wake up there one morning.

ha, at this point you can act like a know-it-all. (:
but no, i'm assuming one has to apply. which is what they meant. piksi was all about YOU MUST GO TO GRAD SCHOOL. and thus change the nature of the discipline of philosophy, by ousting the white men currently there.

i still have your books. am 'aiming' to get them to you before i leave for 'umrah..
